The job wasn't always sex and dancing. Sometimes, but not often, a person would pay for the services of Azure Hotel just so someone, a person bound by a client confidentiality policy, would listen. Sergeant James Samuels ended up being one of those few people, but not intentionally. The poor guy received a 'Dear John' letter only a week ago when he and his squad first arrived on Illium for leave half way to their next destination.
Amira hugged him close and gently stroked his short, dirty blond hair. James spilled the story about how he had lost his wife and kids in the first wave of the Reaper invasion on Earth. He was left an empty man afterwards, but a woman he rescued and slowly began to feel for brought him back to life. Then after two years she cracked and told him she'd been sleeping with other men because it was too hard on her for him to be out risking his life.
What a bitch, Amira thought, but never said. It wasn't her place to criticize, but to comfort. Sgt. Samuels was going to need a lot of comfort.
